SECONDS OF HAPPINESS

Hi!

Pigeons have made their home at my factory building. While designing and constructing the building I had thought as much that the place would tomorrow be the home for birds. That has been dreams come true.

I do enjoy seeing them during mornings and evenings. Flying and coming back feeding their little ones and at nights sitting in some places in a meditative posture.

This morning one of the Pigeon had entered the administrative block from where it could not go out as the glass windows were closed, it was attempting to go out  hitting the glass panel. As I was entering office I could hear the hitting sound. Seconds past it was in the hands of my worker. My manager told me these guys take it home and eat whenever they get them. I became wild and grabbed the bird from his hand, opened the window and released the Pigeon.

The way it went flying into the air, I could see the happiness in its fly which made me happy too. The episode might have taken about 25 seconds only, but the sight of the bird flying inspired me to write these lines which I would want to share with you all.

SECONDS OF HAPPINESS

Like a Woodpecker hitting at the Glass

Calling for my attention as I Pass

Grabbing it from that wicked Hand

Clasped it tight in my Hand

Eyes dwindling in Fear

Accelerated heart beats I couldn’t Bear

Holding it in Rescue

Throwing in air it Flew

Sigh of relief; patting its wings like never Before

Like a Roller Coaster ride, I never had Before

Except planet earth a place where can it Find

I Ponder, why can’t we be Kind

The Pigeon enjoyed seconds of Happiness

I too enjoyed seconds of Happiness

You did a great kindness that day. I don’t blame your worker as many people are brought up to believe that pigeons are pests and there would be no fault in supplementing your diet if the opportunity arose. Not everyone will share your great respect for life. Why not post some notices around the factory to say that it was designed to encourage the birds to nest and that you respect their right to life. Maybe the practice of eating any caught will cease.

Now David! This is just beautiful.
      I love your comment.
The respect you showed for the life.
      Your suggestion I welcome.
The inevitability of the supplementary diet I do understand.
But I would only like to say for the diet, there is plenty in this world to get satisfied.
Its long since I visited you, I shall come to you may be in a couple of hours.
      Thanks
      love to You.

I knew my home town had become much more urbanized when the Quail disappeared and the Pigeons arrived. My husband doesn’t like them because he’s been brainwashed against them but I too think they are very pretty and they only visit because they prefer the buildings down town so, they don’t make too much of a mess of things. Then the Magpies come and chase them all away, they chase all the birds away, and then they fight with each other. Then they go further north for awhile, as the canaries pass through and a variety of woodpeckers descend, filling my Cottons woods with their industry. I love them all so, along with my increasing herd of deer. My home has become a bit of a refuge because I am really a wilderness girl, a tiny bit eccentric, and I allow my acreage to grow wild. My critters love it and give me many happy hours of happy companionship. I love that you rescued a Pigeon.:0)

I have now come across a very interesting comment from a very important person.
Yes I can get a picture about your description . I understand how birds can turn out to be beasts, and animals as wild as not expected of.
But your handling of things is very interesting and I loved to know about it. You give room to all those who come your way; you can accommodate them all. That is what I loved to read.
      Pam!
How is the poetic aspect of the whole episode. If you can throw light upon that, it shall add few more seconds of happiness .
      😀😄😮🙌

Good poem, Shiva. A female pigeon keeps raising brood after brood, usually two at a time, on one of our bathroom window sills. She seems to be intent on populating the neighborhood with pigeons. No sooner than one pair leaves the nest, she lays two more eggs, then two more, etc. 🙂 — Suzanne

Let it populate, in any case they shall have a place somewhere.
But here in my building I see the eggs fallen on the ground. I shall do somethings about that.
      Thanks for your encouraging comment.

Oh Shiva! This is fantastic…your story first and then the poem…the pigeon cannot thank you enough and you will be blessed the rest of your days for your wonderful act of kindness!! I love how you talk about the eyes and heart beat of the pigeon, I could feel it as I read it. And the sound of the bird hitting the glass, the house I grew up in had a big glass window on the front of the house and the birds would fly into it all the time not realizing glass was there…this reminded me of that. I really love this!!!

I do not know of the audiobooks that you listen to; not to underestimate them, listening to and reading books or having guidance all are like the chisels of a sculptor who by hitting with the chisel shall shape the stone that are WE.
Yes something GREAT is standing right at your doorstep, open the door to find that shall want to embrace you.

Such a wonderful act from your part. The bird would have been so scared. I am very fond of feeding these birds. There is a temple nearby where many of them flock together when we throw grains.
Besides, Amma keeps a vessel with water in our kitchen window sill for the birds and also give them grains in the morning. These days, when she forgets, they come and call out for food. 🙂
